I proudly present to you all Austin & Niki’s feature length wedding film. After you watch the film take a few moments to see what Austin & Niki had to say about their wedding day!
Tell us about your wedding day.
(Niki) Our wedding day was May 17, 2014… We had over 500 guests attend! We were married at the Scottish Rite, in the theater with 14 of our closest friends and family in our wedding party. We wanted a venue that was unique yet still incredibly elegant! Unfortunately, you can’t trust Kansas weather so anything out doors was out of the question, just to be safe. Our reception was at the Drury Hotel in the ballroom. Everything came together without a hitch and was so beautiful! We couldn’t have asked for a more picture perfect wedding day!
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
(Niki) So, I have two… My most memorable moment from the day was the first moment I got to see Austin during our “first look”. I had been SO nervous all day long, heart racing, butterflies in my stomach and adrenaline pumping! After I got to see him and hug him and kiss him, all my cares and worries were gone. I was so ready to marry the love of my life. My second most memorable moment from that day was reading Austin’s letter to me. Those words are the most heartfelt and meaningful words I’ve ever read in my entire life. I cry every time I read them.
(Austin) The hour leading up to the moment I got to see Niki for the first time that day was an hour I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It started pretty simply, just hanging out with my closest friends, talking and laughing. Then I read the letter Niki wrote for me, and I was blown away. Her words, combined with all of the emotions that had been building up inside me since the beginning of that week, was enough to bring tears to my eyes, and I don’t cry very often. After that I opened two incredible gifts from my future wife, probably the most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever received in my life. A few minutes later, I got to see Niki for the first time, she looked amazing, all dolled up in her white dress. I couldn’t stop smiling. All of that happened in just one hour! It was one of the best hours I’ve ever experienced.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
(Niki) Living in California while planning the wedding was definitely our biggest challenge… being so far away did not make it easy. Both of our moms were in Wichita to help us get some big things taken care of, but only going to Wichita twice between January and the week of our wedding in May made it incredibly challenging!
What was most important to you when you were wedding planning?
(Niki) Trying not to sweat the small stuff and remember to actually enjoy every second of our special day! For us, that meant lots of drinks and time on the dance floor with our friends and family!
Tell us about any meaningful detail/special moment(s) during your ceremony.
(Niki) Having my brother and Austin’s cousin both read passages at our wedding was really special to me. Also, reading Austin’s letter to me before the ceremony as well as our vows. Hearing those words was one of the most special moments of my life!
(Austin) During the ceremony, all of my attention was focused on Niki, and the words we spoke to each other. When we turned to walk back down the isle together, I realized for the first time just how many friends and family members had come to celebrate our special day with us. Seeing everyone smiling and clapping meant a lot, and seeing some really close friends cheering from the balcony right before we passed under it was an awesome way to end the ceremony.
Tell us about meaningful detail(s) during your reception.
(Niki) Our first dance. Austin proposed to “Mine Would Be You” by Blake Shelton, so having that as our first dance song seemed fitting and was really special.
(Austin) The speeches that were made by our best man/maid of honor, as well as the speeches made by Niki’s parents, were fantastic. We really felt the love from everyone who spoke, and got to relive some great memories as well!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress.
(Niki) What an experience that was!…. It felt like I tried on 500 dresses…. I went to a few stores in Wichita with my family (my mom, grandma and aunt!) and mother-in-law. I wasn’t convinced I had found “the one” so my mom came out to Los Angeles and we went to a few boutiques out here! The last dress at the last store was nothing like I thought I would like, asymmetrical and big and blingy! I humored everyone, tried it on and fell in love! I can’t imagine getting married in any other dress!
What advice do you have for couples currently planning a wedding?
Stay calm when planning and remember, it’s only one day. Don’t worry so much about the small details as you worry about each other and taking in every moment of the day! Half of the details that seem so major before the event seem SO small after the fact.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you most looking forward to about married life?
(Niki) Travel, travel, travel! We want to go to as many places as possible before we have children. We’ve already got a lot of good vacations and little trips on our calendar. I’m excited to keep exploring and loving LA and California every day with my best friend before we decide to settle down and start a family.
(Austin) Enjoying all of the changes and new things that we’ll be experiencing over the next few years. Nothing is nailed down and we are far from settled, so everything is exciting and unknown! It is scary at times, not knowing exactly where we are headed, but I want to be able to look back at this time in our lives knowing we enjoyed every day of it. We’ll be traveling a lot, possibly moving more and trying to have as many fun experiences as we can!
Congrats to you both! Thank you for letting me document your wedding day!
